The debate surrounding the future of America’s energy supply has grown increasingly intense during the last several decades. As energy demand has grown, so too have the risks to our energy security, our national security, our environment and our economic stability. Issues as diverse as global warming, air pollution, and military conflict have been associated with our fossil fuel based economy. While the Federal Government has been formulating responses to these issues at the national level, state governments have been formulating regional plans of action. With a disproportionately high dependence on imported energy and a projected growth in energy demand, the northeast states have reached a critical juncture for deciding their energy future.

Solar Northeast is cost-effectively jumpstarting the northeast’s transition to a renewable energy economy by enabling large-scale investment in solar energy. To this end, we are working to establish and promote innovative models for financing renewable energy technologies at all levels of government throughout the region. The initial strategy is based on a revenue financing model. Revenue financing provides a loan based on the costs and savings identified in a project, providing for payments based on the overall savings of the project and therefore requiring no capital investment from the borrower.

Solar Northeast Initiates Massachusetts Campaign

Solar Northeast has engaged in conversations with State officials and professionals in the renewable energy field in the Boston area. Plans are formulating for a round table discussion with regards to developing materials and an agenda for providing information to public building administrators interested in energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Details on a funding strategy are still in the formulative phase but participants are optimistic about the outcomes of these discussions.

Future plans for winter seminars to educate larger audiences are in the SNE workings. Topics will include fundamentals of solar power and financially bundling PV installations with energy efficiency upgrades to buy down the payback period on an otherwise cost prohibitive project. It is SNE's hope that programs like these will facilitate many PV installations throughout the state.

 

Solar energy is an unlimited and pollution-free resource that reliably produces electricity where it is consumed.
